The government has issued winter expedition permits to 901 mountaineers from 108 groups to climb 35 mountains and peaks in the country.

According to the Department of Tourism, the most permits have been issued for Mt Manaslu (8,163 m), with 404 mountaineers from 38 groups vying to scale the world's eighth-highest peak.

Permission was issued to five persons of a group to climb the highest mountain in the world, Mt Everest (Sagarmatha), the department said.

Likewise, the department has issued permits to 131 mountaineers from 11 groups to climb Mt Ama Dablam (6,814 m); 144 climbers from 14 groups to scale Himlung (7,167 m).

Thirty-four mountaineers in 4 groups have received permission to scale Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), and one group to climb Mt Nuptse (7,855m).

The department has collected more than Rs70 million in royalty fees from permits issued for the winter expedition this year. - RSS
