Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Crime

Nepal cricket team’s former captain Sandeep Lamichhane, who is facing a rape charge, has said he will return to Nepal at an “appropriate time”. However, he has not revealed where he is.

In a lengthy Facebook post – his second post since the rape complaint was filed against him –Lamichhane said that the complaint filed against him and the arrest warrant issued by the police left him physically and mentally unstable. That’s why, he added, he delayed his return to Nepal.

Lamichhane’s latest post follows reports that Nepal Police could issue an Interpol red corner notice against him to have him arrested.

“On September 7, I got to know that a complaint was filed against me,” he wrote on his Facebook page on September 25. “The warrant issued in my name and the complaint against me that became public left me mentally exhausted.

“On one hand, all these things affected me mentally. But on the other hand, I had to go through physical illness. Therefore, I decided to keep myself in isolation for some time.” He did not reveal where on earth he stayed in isolation.

He added: “After I was portrayed as a criminal based on false allegations, I was deeply disturbed. My condition is now normal after I received good advice from doctors. My health is getting better. I plan to return to Nepal as soon as possible to defend the false complaint against me.”

A 17-year-old girl filed a complaint against him on September 6, accusing him of rape.
Lamichhane was in the West Indies to play for Jamaican Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League. On September 9, Lamichhane took to Facebook, posting that he was returning to Nepal soon.

After that, he disappeared without contacting the Police or the Cricket Association of Nepal.
