A 37-year-old man, who was absconding in the murder case, has been arrested in the eastern district of Jhapa.

A joint team deployed from Province Police Office, Biratnagar, and District Police Office, Jhapa, arrested Dipsan Lawati, a resident of Jhapa Shivasatakshi Municipality-8.

On September 19, 2006, the District Court, Jhapa, handed down life imprisonment to Lawati in the murder case. The verdict was upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court on separate dates.

Defendant Lawati had absconded after completing one year seven months and 24 days of imprisonment in the said case. He needed to serve a prison term of 18 years four months, and six days.

According to Nepal Police, he has been sent to Chandragadhi Prison in Jhapa to serve the remaining imprisonment.
