Nepal on Friday reported 456 new Covid cases after testing 3,838 samples in polymerase chain reaction and antigen tests, the Ministry of Health and Population said.

With the recent additions, the number of active Covid cases has climbed to 2,841.

Meanwhile 80 people were discharged from the health centres within 24 hours across the country.

Among those tested positive Friday, 249 are from Kathmandu valley, of which 173 are from Kathmandu, 52 from Lalitpur and 24 from Bhaktapur district. Kathmandu is the only district with
500 active cases.

Also 28 people from Morang and 17 from Sunsari have tested positive.

According to the Ministry, 133 people are admitted in health centres across the country, of which 22 are admitted in intensive care units.

Of those tested positive, 108 in the age group 21-30. Eight are children aged below 10 and nine people aged 80 and above have also been tested positive.

In view of rising Covid cases, the government has requested people to mandatorily mask up in public places and get booster doses.
