The Surya Nepal Kathmandu Jazz Festival will return on Thursday for its 18th iteration, promising quality jazz to Nepal that transcends boundaries and spreads the message of peace and compassion through music. The festival runs until October 19.
Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 2022, which is back after a hiatus of two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will have a total of seven performers, the organisers said in a statement on Wednesday.
The jazz festival, spanning over six days, will begin with a concert for young students/music competition at Malpi Institute.
“One of the most awaited schedules of Jazzmandu, Jazz Bazaar will be held in the afternoon of October 15 where the attendees can enjoy incredible music at Gokarna Forest Resort,” the statement said. The event will conclude with a full festival line-up on October 19 at Hotel Yak and Yeti, Durbar Marg.
Since its launch in 2002, Surya Nepal Jazzmandu has been working to promote jazz in Nepal, bringing world-class musicians to audiences in Kathmandu. This jazz festival has reached unprecedented heights, becoming one of Nepal's most awaited musical extravaganzas.
“Surya Nepal Jazzmandu also strives to make the music accessible to as many people as possible by actively including free shows, educational school programmes and workshops,” the statement said, adding that it has also been promoting intercultural interactions by bringing together musicians, volunteers, fans, students, and audiences.
