The Gandaki provincial-level sports tournament started on Thursday as part of the ninth National Games.

A total of 3,223 participants, including the players, coaches and managers from 11 districts of Gandaki Province, are attending the event.

Gandaki Province has started a selection tournament for the ninth National Games, which will take place in the province from October 14 to 20. The selection tournament is taking place in Pokhara Stadium.

According to Member-Secretary of Province Sports Council Tej Bahadur Gurung, as many as 5,677 players who had progressed through the district-level selection competitions are competing in the province-level tournament.

The players selected in the provincial-level tournament will be included in the closed-door training. Kaski is participating in all 35 games in the provincial selection round, while Manang is fielding players in five games. A total of 673 players were selected from Kaski for province-level tournaments from the district-level screening held on August 24-30.

According to the council, 166 players from Mustang, 283 from Myagdi, 361 from Baglung, 223 from Parbat, 347 from Syangja and 303 from Tanahun have been selected for province-level tournaments.

Likewise, 213 from Lamjung, 230 from Gorkha, 46 from Manang and 378 from Nawalpur districts are participating in the competitions. Gandaki Province will field 709 athletes in 36 disciplines and two exhibition events at the ninth National Games. - RSS
