Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Climate

With the low-pressure system around Nepal weakening, the weather across the country will gradually improve from Tuesday.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon is still active due to the low-pressure system, but it is receding. It will improve in the next two days, and good weather will prevail across Nepal.

"The monsoon continues, but the rain system has weakened. As a result, parts of Karnali, Sudurpaschim provinces, and many places in the east will likely witness rainfall on Tuesday," said Hira Bhattarai, a meteorologist at the department. "However, the weather in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces will improve from Wednesday. There will clear weather throughout the country from Thursday."

The ongoing monsoon, coupled with the low-pressure system in the vicinity, has led to continuous rains for the last eight days, according to the department. As the influence of low-pressure exists in the atmosphere over the Indian state of Haryana and Nepal, the monsoon will last for another week.

As a result, the country is currently witnessing a normal to complete change in the weather pattern. According to the department's weather bulletin, light rains are expected in one or two places in Province 1, Bagmati and Lumbini provinces.

A change in the weather pattern is expected across the country in the afternoon. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is possible in some places of Province 1, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Province, and one or two places in the remaining provinces.
