A total of 189 people have gone missing from Baitadi, a district that shares its border with India. 

According to Inspector Lokraj Joshi, the district police spokesperson, police have reported 189 cases of missing people in the past three years. Of them, 130 individuals were found. 

Joshi also said that the number of missing people reached 45 in the fiscal year 2076/77 BS (2019/20).

Similarly, 60 went missing in the year 2077/78 (2020/21) whereas 84 people went missing in the last fiscal year. 

Most of the missing people were women and girls.  

According to the Police Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Pal, missing cases of women and girls are on the rise in the district in recent years.  

It has been reported that domestic violence is one of the causes for the increasing number of missing cases.
