The 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Bajura district on Tuesday has displaced 42 families. 

According to Deputy Superintendent Surya Bahadur Thapa of the District Police Office, 12 families have been displaced Himali Rural Municipality, 15 families from the Gaumul Rural Municipality and as many from Badimalika Municipality.

Similarly, 12 affected families from Badimalika, four from Himali and 14 from Gaumul are taking shelter in their relatives' houses, DSP Thapa said, adding that five other affected families were living in tents and a family in a temple. 

Around 400 houses were damaged in the quake, according to the District Police Office. Badimalika Municipality is the hardest hit, said Thapa. 

The powerful quake destroyed 21 houses in Badimalika, three in Budhinanda, one in Budhiganga, 19 in Himali, 11 in Gaumul, four in Khaptad Chhededaha, and one in Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality.

Thirty-one houses in Badimalika, nine in Budhinanda, nine in Himali, five in Khaptad Chhededaha, and five in Gaumul sustained major damage.

The dwellings that sustained general damages were 187 in Badimalika, 40 in Himali, one each in Budhinanda and Swamikartik.

A woman was killed after being hit by a falling rock while she was cutting grass at Jureli of Gaumul Rural Municipality-2. The police have identified her as Jamuna Rokaya, 32. 

The tremor left three more people injured in the district. Rajdal Bohara of Amlika of Gaumul-1 and Sarita Nepali, 16, from Humla, are receiving treatment at local health facilities. Nepali was visiting her elder sister at Himali-6. Chandra Mahat of Badimalika municipality-2 has since been discharged after treatment, the police said. 

The quake killed 50 sheep after being stuck in a crack and hit by falling rocks, according to the District Police Office. The animals belonged to Bohara, who was one of the survivors. Collection of the details of losses is underway, said the police.
