Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Nepal

The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) has demanded the government constitute a high-powered transport authority with the participation of the stakeholders concerned.

A delegation led by federation President Bijay Bahadur Swar called on President Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Thursday at his office in Baluwatar with the same request.

During the meeting, Punya Prasad (Saroj) Sitaula, the senior vice-chair of the federation, told the government that one of the federation's demands was that all vehicles older than 20 years should have their engines checked and their condition checked before they can be driven.

The PM promised that the concerns of transportation entrepreneurs would be addressed soon as the government recognised the need to further systematise the domestic transportation sector as its main goal.

Earlier, federation officials met with Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Rabi Lamichhane, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, and Shalikram Jamakattel, the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, and apprised them of problems facing the domestic transport sector.
