Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Nepal

The Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA) has launched a campaign to search public land alongside the Rudramati river, popularly known as Dhobikhola river.

The authority started the campaign after getting a tip that the growing number of people were moving onto public land along the rivers in the valley.

The authority’s Administrative Officer, Subhash Chandra Aryal, said they were preparing a report following maps and surveys of the encroached public land alongside the river based on the study about complaints registered.

He said the report with maps of the encroached public land on either side of the river from Budhanilakantha to Buddhanagar would be ready in two months.

The authority has been tracing the encroached public land as per the required standards to make it available for public use.

The authority has also said that it has started a campaign to search the public land along the Balkhukhola riverbanks. It has also come up with efforts to preserve the public space alongside the rivers in the Kathmandu Valley.

The valley authority plans to develop such land plots into public spaces for disaster management.
